Dresses and night wear is made in Jiangsu on the northern east coast of China. Silk has been made in this area of China since the Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) Dynasties. The highest grade silk was made for the royal families by Suzhou silk weavers. Silk is made by first picking mulberry leaves to feed the silkworms, then washing the raw silk fabric then finally weaving the silk material.

After the silk was produced, the products made their way over the Silk Road where the earliest trade took place between Eastern and Western market exchange.
